Call for papers

Background

There is a growing number of biochemical, neuroimaging and clinical studies suggesting a strong neurobiological link between behavioral addictions and substance use disorders. Given the substantial co-occurrence of behavioral addictions and substance abuse disorders, together with comorbid mental health disorders, advancing our understanding in both the neurobiological and psychological aspects of these disorders will improve the development of effective prevention and treatment strategies.

With this in mind, we have chosen the conference theme of "Neurological and Psychosocial Aspects of Gambling Disorder and Addiction" this year. The aims of this conference include advancing the knowledge on disordered gambling and addiction as well as creating a platform for interdisciplinary collaborations across the fields of addiction treatment professional.

This conference will include presentations and workshops on neurological and psychological aspects of gambling disorder and addictions, treatment approaches, financial and debt counseling, cultural specificity, working with families, community and public education, responsible gaming policy, treatment on co-morbidity such as mood disorders, suicide and substance abuse.

  • Cultural specificity in gambling disorder and addiction

  • Treatment on co-morbidity such as mood disorders, suicide and substance abuse.

Paper presentations – Format and Guidelines

Presentation
  1. Presentation should present new and original work that relate to the conference theme.
  2. Each paper presentation has 30 minutes that includes 25 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions.

Guidelines
  1. Abstract should be written in English in a maximum of 300 words that highlight the objectives, significant findings, implications and impacts.
  2. If there are more than one author, please underline the presenting author’s name and include both the email address and other contact details of the institute/organization of the author.
  3. Abstracts of accepted paper presentation will be compiled in the conference program booklet.

Deadline
  1. Abstract should be submitted together with the Submission Form and email to the following email address: info@appgac.org.
  2. Closing date for submission of abstract is on 30th November 2014.
  3. Please submit your powerpoint presentation to be included in the conference booklet by 15th March 2015.

Poster Presentations – Format and Guidelines

Guidelines
  1. Abstract should be written in English or Chinese in a maximum of 300 words that highlight the objectives, significant findings, implications and impacts.
  2. If there are more than one author, please underline the presenting author’s name and include both the email address and other contact details of the institute/organization of the author.
  3. Abstracts of accepted poster presentation will be compiled in the conference program booklet.

Display and Presentation
  1. All posters will be on display during the conference between 8th to 9th of May 2015 at The Foyer, Jockey Club Auditorium, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
  2. There are 4 poster presentation sessions during coffee breaks. Authors may wish to stand next to the poster for questions and hand out materials.
  3. All posters will be removed on 9th May 2015. If you want to keep the posters, you are advised to remove them personally at 5:00pm on 9th May 2015.
  4. The Organizer bears no responsibility for any damage or loss of the poster on display at the Conference.

Deadline
  1. Closing date for submission of abstract is on 30th November 2014.
  2. The softcopy of your poster must be submitted and email to info@appgac.org by 15th March 2015 to be included for production.

Poster Panel

Exhibition display panel will be allocated for each poster presentation. The size of the display panel will be 120 cm (W) x 250 cm (H). It is suggested that your poster should not exceed 100 cm (W) x 150 cm (H). The Organizer will help you produce the poster in the cost of HKD 400 that should be sent with your registration fee. The softcopy of your poster must be sent to us by 15th March 2015.

Format
  1. The title of your poster should appear on the top of your poster followed by the author(s)’ name(s) and affiliation(s) below. Your poster should include your abstract and other prominent sub-headings such as Objectives, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions, etc.
  2. Photographs, graphs, diagrams, equations or short text bullets may be used to increase the attraction of your poster.
  3. Please use English filename and in image file (1:1) in CMYK color resolution ranges from 100~150dpi in PDF, TIF or JPG format.

Registration for Presenters

All paper and poster presenters are required to register for the conference and are also responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.

All submitted abstracts paper and poster will be reviewed by our selection panel. A letter of acceptance of papers will be sent to all presenters in due course.

Conference Proceedings

A collaboration will be made with Asian Journal of Gambling Issues and Public Health. A special issue will be published as APPGAC 2015 Conference Proceedings. Manuscripts should be submitted by 31st August 2015 to be included in the proceedings. Please refer to submission guideline for details.
